Oral conscious sedation is an effective sedation method we offer our patients. While it helps our patients feel relaxed, it does not “knock them out” or make them lose consciousness. Patients can still interact with our dentists and respond to them. Learn more about oral conscious sedation in Anchorage, Alaska, and stop by Clear Dental today!
This form of sedation is administered in pill form. During your consultation, before your treatment appointment, our dentists will give you a prescription for the sedative. Patients can pick up the prescription and take the pill before their appointment. Our dentists will always give you a timeframe for when to take the pill. That way, the sedative only starts to take effect during and not before or after your visit. However, because this sedation is taken before your appointment, you will need to have someone drive you to your appointment, as well as pick you up afterwards.
There are a few advantages to using oral sedation. It can be easily taken through pill form, while still creating a noticeable effect. Most patients feel at ease and a little drowsy as the pill starts to work on their system. Oral conscious sedation is often cheaper than other sedation methods. Also, patients who are nervous around needles can avoid IVs or other, more invasion administration methods.
