At Clear Dental, we use IV sedation to help patients feel relaxed during their procedure. While not all treatments require this form of sedation, our dentists may recommend this depending on a patient’s medical history, personal needs and other relevant factors. We ask that you help provide this information to our dentists before your visit.
IV, or intravenous, sedation is inserted directly into the patient’s bloodstream. This provides an almost immediate effect, and our dental team will monitor from the initial administration until the end of your appointment. Because the sedation can continue to affect a patient, even after the IV is taken out, we ask that you bring someone to drive you home after your appointment. We also recommend that patients be monitored by a responsible adult for a few hours following their appointment. This allows the medication to exit the bloodstream and the sedation effects to wear off.
Though patients remain conscious during their IV treatment, they will often not remember the experience. If you have any concerns about undergoing an IV sedation treatment in Anchorage, Alaska, let our dentists know or call (907) 313-2433. Our dentists and our team will be happy to answer any of your concerns and go over the IV sedation process in detail.
